Ferris Emeriti Scholarship Endowment

In the fall of 2013, the FSUEA Board of Directors voted to establish an endowment to fund scholarships for needy undergraduate students at Ferris State University. A fundraising committee was formed, and after consultation with UA&M and feedback from members of the Emeriti Association, eligibility criteria for awards were developed.

Fundraising progress was slow until the Ferris Futures matching program was instituted by the FSU Board of Trustees in 2016. This program matches all scholarship donations of $1,000 or more dollar for dollar. Since then, donations to our Endowment have soared.  Our primary strategy for raising funds has been to hold a “bucket” campaign in December in which we pool all donations, regardless of the amount, in a virtual bucket to reach the $1,000 minimum to get the matching dollars.

We were able to give out single awards in academic years 2017-18, 2018-19, and 2019-20. In 2020-21, we were able to give out 2 awards. This past year, we were able to give out five $1,000 awards; one to a student in each of the 5 undergraduate colleges at Ferris, including KCAD.

As our endowment grows, the fundraising committee will recommend to the Board of Directors that we either increase the amount of each award or we give out more awards. This will be a nice problem to have.
