DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING DAY HOLIDAY

On the third Monday of January each year, we celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Day -- the only national holiday commemorating the actions of an African-American. Originally petitioned to honor Dr. King's dedication to trade unions, it would be established on November 2, 1983 by President Ronald Reagan.

OMSS' DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. CELEBRATION

Since 1987 the MLK Celebration has been a staple event of the Office of Multicultural Student Services. Each year our department has coordinated annual events such as the Freedom March and the Student Tribute programs to commemorate Dr. King's legacy. Throughout the past 20 plus years, our department has cultivated the Dr. King celebration to be more than just one day, led a campus-wide committee to assist with programming, and created the MLK Legacy Award as an esteemed honor for students and student organizations at FSU.
