Meet MCO Student Ayhubrhan Yifru

What is your educational background? When are you graduating MCO?

I went to school in the rural cities of Ethiopia until my sophomore year of high school. I attended high school and college in US. Despite English being my fourth language and with no background in the language, I graduated as a valedictorian and cum laude in college (finished college in 3 years). I entered MCO in 2019. I will be graduating in 2023.

Why did you choose to attend MCO?

If I am being totally honest it’s because of the tuition rate. I love the small class size too.

What are some fond memories you have of optometry school?

The memories I built with my friends are the best memories I have from MCO.

Tell us a little about your plans for the future.

I am currently enrolled at Harvard Management School to pursue my Master’s Degree. I am planning to use my optometry doctoral and master’s degree to expand the scope of the optometry profession and clinics in third world countries.

What is the most rewarding part of this journey?

To be able to see myself grow into a woman I have always wanted to be without losing my focus on God.

What are your interests outside of optometry?

I am a part-time model for big companies like Whirlpool, Target, Meijer….etc. I started my real estate business in Ethiopia in 2020. I am a social media influencer.

What is a fond memory you have of MCO?

I would say after a long lecture in the morning, coming out to get free Panera food is definitely a good memory I have of the school.

I am proud to soon be a member of this group and proud of the hard work it takes to accomplish our dreams.
