Ferris Ranks Prominently Among the Nation’s Best Value Colleges for 2023-24

Best value colleges ranking

Ferris State University has once again earned a ranking among the top five in the nation among best value colleges and universities.

Ferris State University’s commitment to students has it once again ranked among the nation’s Best Value Colleges.

Knowinsiders has highlighted Ferris at No. 3 on its top 30 list for 2023-24. Highlighting the top five are by No. 1 Brigham Young University, in Provo, Utah; No. 2 Western Carolina, in Cullowhee, North Carolina; No. 3 Ferris; No. 4 Eastern Illinois University; and No. 5 North Dakota State University.

Ferris was the only Michigan school ranked in the top 30 on a list hailing the institutions for their academics, student success outcomes, financial aid and net price.

“We’re grateful for this national recognition and affirmation of the work we’re doing here at Ferris State University to serve our students through high-quality academics in great overall college experience at a cost that keeps us among the best value institutions in the nation,” Ferris President Bill Pink said. “We’re not resting on our laurels, however. Instead, recognition like this encourages us to work harder to do better for our students and their families to serve them in the best way possible.”

Knowinsiders based its Ferris ranking on four key factors: academic quality, based on the overall score in the 2023 Best Colleges rankings; need-based scholarships and grants for full-time undergraduates; the average full-time undergraduate discount; and 2021-22 full-time undergraduates who received need-based aid and grants or scholarships. The site notes that the last factor, Knowinsiders notes, rewards institutions for “awarding a higher percentage of need-based financial aid as scholarships or grants. Even generous schools may give a lot of aid as need-based loans or work-study, which are less beneficial to students than scholarship or grant aid.”

Rounding out the top 10 rankings was No. 6 University of North Dakota, No. 7 Southern Illinois University-Carbondale, No. 8 University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, No. 9 CUNY City College and No. 10 CUNY Hunter College.

“We’re committed to recruiting, retaining and graduating our students at Ferris because we know that affordable access to a college degree is as essential as it has ever been for the students we serve now and look forward to serving in the future,” Pink added.

Previously, Ferris has ranked No. 3 in the nation for best value by College Consensus, in 2022, and No. 2 in social mobility, in 2022, among Michigan colleges.

Midway through its Spring 2023 semester, Ferris will host main campus commencement ceremonies on Friday and Saturday, May 5-6.
