Summer Internships: Paige Byrnes

Ferris State University students gain valuable work experience through internships. Internships also can confirm or redirect career decision-making, provide marketability, develop people skills and enhance classroom learning. Many academic programs require one, but the experience is encouraged regardless to provide students with a better understanding of what will be expected of them in the workplace.

Many students are participating in myriad internships this summer. Meet:

Her Internship and Making A Difference: Paige works with Spartan/Nash. “I have had the opportunity to learn the many facets of directing a grocery store. I have gained practical experience overseeing daily operations and understanding the retail establishment’s intricacies. I have had the opportunity to work with the store’s management team to improve their onboarding process. I am grateful for the opportunity to work on meaningful projects, and it has been a fantastic experience to apply what I have learned in the classroom in a practical manner.”

Future Plans: “I have a strong interest in management and am interested in pursuing a leadership position after I complete my degree.

This internship has allowed me to gain valuable experience in working with teams and completing projects. These experiences have given me insight into the many facets of management, and I have gained skills that can only be learned on the job.”

Advice for Other Students Seeking Internships: “Don’t sell yourself short. Securing an internship can seem daunting, but you will miss amazing opportunities if you don’t even try.”

Other Campus Activities: “I am currently a member of Alpha Sigma Tau, and I serve on the organization’s executive board as the vice president of organization development. I am also involved with the Panhellenic Council, and I currently serve as the council’s treasurer. In the past, I was involved with the FSU Club Volleyball team and the University’s Homecoming Committee. I have enjoyed connecting with other Ferris students and holding leadership positions, and I am thankful that these organizations have granted me these opportunities.”

University Core Value Paige Relates to: Collaboration. “It has proved to be a crucial aspect of team success for many groups I have been a part of. I thrive in team environments where I can collaborate with others as we work towards a common goal. Throughout my college and internship experience, I have experienced firsthand how collaboration can make work environments more successful and enjoyable.”
