Ferris State University’s Student Government Association is hoping for a big finish to its annual Holiday Food Drive, which began on Tuesday, Nov. 1 and continues through Thursday, Dec. 8.
Cassidy Engels, a Medical Laboratory Sciences student from Otsego, is a Student Government executive board member. Engels said while individual donations will be welcomed at their offices, there is a focus on participation from registered student organizations and residence halls, academic departments, fraternities, sororities and other campus groups.
“We ask participating groups to register with us on BulldogConnect to provide contact people in their group,” Engels said. “When they label their donation with their RSO name and bring those items in bulk to our office in the David L. Eisler Center, we can keep track of our leading donor groups.”

On Thursday evening, Dec. 8, there will be an ice sculpture carving as part of our Holiday celebration in the Robinson Quad, where the winning group’s name will be revealed on the sculpture. We are planning another gift from Student Government for the top donor group.”
Engels said organizers will sort the donations of packaged food, snack items, cereal and personal care items. The gathered items will go to the Manna Pantry on S. State Street and the Student Emergency Food Pantry in Wesley House, at the corner of S. Warren Avenue and Cedar Street.
“We hope our collaborative partners come through on behalf of those in need throughout the university and the Big Rapids community,” Engels said. “This drive is organized to make Ferris students more aware of others in their classes or colleges facing food uncertainty.
The SGA is also accepting monetary donations to support the annual Holiday Food Drive, with the holiday celebration on the Robinson Quad Dec. 8 set for 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
