Faculty, Staff and Emeriti Support Voca Lyrica Cabaret Benefit Dinner and Silent Auction April 6

Ferris State UniversityAn evening of music, dining and entertainment are set for Saturday, April 6, as Voca Lyrica, a Mecosta County-based women’s chorus, will be joined by a band of musicians for a cabaret-style benefit dinner and silent auction at the Falcon Head Golf Club, south of Big Rapids.

Languages and Literature adjunct instructor Denise Cosper is the secretary of Voca Lyrica’s executive board. Cosper said that some Ferris emeriti are on their current roster, along with several members of the university’s faculty and staff.

“We have had a great deal of help from throughout our membership, whether they secured items for the silent auction, took part in arranging the production, or helped our performers prepare for the benefit,” Cosper said. “There was a great desire among our 47 members to offer a light, fun event. The audience will hear many of their 60s favorites that evening, and they will be able to join us on those songs they still enjoy and remember.”

The choir’s first season of performances was 2001, and Cosper said that the cabaret-style event has been offered on occasion. Doors open at 6 p.m. and those attending the event can bid on auction items, with a cash bar available. Dinner will be served beginning at 6:30 p.m., with the entertainment to follow.

“We offer this program to support our general operation, and the endowed scholarship that we have established with the Mecosta County Community Foundation,” Cosper said. “Voca Lyrica, at its core, is bound by sharing a love of vocal music with the community and promoting excellence and opportunity for our youth to explore musical pursuits. An area middle or high school student seeking to further their vocal training will receive our annual scholarship that evening, while event proceeds will also benefit our choral group and the Treblemaker Youth Choir.”

Tickets for the benefit are $40 each and can be purchased at Artworks in Big Rapids through Saturday, March 30. Falcon Head Golf Club is located at 13120 Northland Drive, about two miles south of the main Ferris campus.
