Summer Internships: Cristian Gomez-Canchola

Ferris State University students gain valuable work experience through internships. Internships also can confirm or redirect career decision-making, provide marketability, develop people skills and enhance classroom learning. Many academic programs require one, but the experience is encouraged regardless to provide students with a better understanding of what will be expected of them in the workplace.

Many students are participating in internships this summer. Meet:

Cristian Gomez-CancholaCristian Gomez-Canchola

He is: a graduate of the College of Engineering Technology’s Heavy Equipment Technology program who earned an Associate of Applied Sciences. Cristian is from West Olive.

His Internship: is with The Rapid, the interurban transit partnership for greater Grand Rapids. “I am learning how to repair and keep transportation buses on the road, while also learning new skills.”

Was Ferris Helpful In Securing Your Internship? Cristian attended a job fair on campus and made his internship connection. “I was able to talk to employers with in my career field and that is how I was able to find this opportunity.”

Advice For Students Seeking An Internship: “Simply talk to employers within your area of interest and let them know what you plan on doing or what you need. Maybe they help you out or point you in the right direction.”

Other Interests On Campus: “I was a member of the Hispanic Student Organization on campus for my two years at Ferris. I was also a mentor for other students in the Promesa Scholars Program, on campus, for both of those years.”

Ferris Core Value Cristian Relates to: Ethical Community. “Ferris’ Center For Latin@ Studies was very helpful in my becoming familiar and comfortable with the campus, and the pursuit of my career path.”
