Ferris State University is set to host the annual ACE Women’s Network Women of Color
Collaborative (WOCC) Luncheon on Friday, Nov. 9. The event is open to the public and
will be held in the University Center on the Big Rapids campus.
The 2018 luncheon theme is “Let’s Talk About It,” and will include lunch, deliberative dialogues, optional tours of the Jim Crow Museum of Racist Memorabilia, the Museum of Sexist Objects and networking opportunities. The luncheon is scheduled from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. with optional museum tours at 10 a.m. and 1:45 p.m. The registration deadline is 5 p.m., Friday, Oct. 26.
Ana L. Ramirez-Saenz, the secretary of Ferris’ Board of Trustees, will be the luncheon’s keynote speaker. She is the CEO and owner of La Fuente Consulting LLC, diversity and inclusion consultancy, which was established in 2000. She was previously the marketing and training manager for Steelcase Financial and an assistant product manager for Steelcase's Turnstone brand.
ABOUT THE WOMEN’S NETWORK
The luncheon is sponsored by the Women’s Network of the Michigan American Council on Education – MI-ACE. The ACE Women’s Network is a national system of networks within each state, whose objective is to develop programs that identify, develop, encourage, advance, link and support (IDEALS) women in higher education careers within that state. The WOCC is a collaborative within the network. Its goal is to provide a forum and means of support for women of color employed in faculty, administrative staff, and leadership roles at Michigan’s colleges and universities.

Ferris houses several museums on the main campus. The Jim Crow Museum of Racist Memorabilia and the Museum of Sexist Objects will be open for tours before and after the luncheon.
Jim Crow Museum of Racist Memorabilia
The Jim Crow Museum of Racist Memorabilia houses over 9,000 artifacts; the majority of the objects were created between the 1870s and the 1960s.The largest portion of the museum's holdings are items that may be classified as Anti-black Memorabilia and demonstrate how racist ideas and anti-black images dominated American culture and have resurfaced in recent years. The museum has "positive" displays, including stories and artifacts about African American achievement and the civil rights movement. Museum of Sexist Objects
The purpose of the Museum of Sexist Objects is to encourage discussion, debate, and
dialogue concerning everyday objects that promote sexist attitudes, discriminatory
practices, and gendered violence. The Museum provides a learning environment that
encourages scholarly dialogue and fosters research. For more information, check out
