Staff and supporters of Ferris State University’s Center for Leadership, Activities and Career Services are giving special attention to preparations for the Bulldog Bubblegum Blast, which will be held on Thursday evening beginning at 6 p.m., Sept. 6, in the Campus Quad.

CLACS Coordinator Michele Albright said the records management team with Guinness World Records has accepted the application to attempt to surpass the world record of 881 people blowing a chewing gum bubble, simultaneously, which was set earlier this summer. Ferris’ organizers have been presented with a variety of specific requirements regarding participants, observers and other factors.

“We will carefully follow the guidelines to get our challenge recognized by Guinness World Records,” Albright said. “It is exciting that we will receive some much-needed support from Pepsi, our university beverage sponsor. They will be with us at the event to promote their products, and join with other official observers or stewards. Since Guinness requires that stewards for the attempt cannot be Ferris students or employees, we would be happy to welcome others from the community who want to take part in what we believe will be a very fun and record-setting evening.”

Participants from across the university and the Big Rapids community are invited to check in at CLACS’ bubblegum table, near the University Center entrance on the Campus Quad at 6 p.m. on Sept. 6. B-103.9 Radio is providing entertainment, with local performers beginning at approximately 5:30 p.m., a DJ providing music on site and a number of giveaways and prizes for those supporting the Bulldog Bubblegum Blast. Albright said students are being asked to stay in the venue area for the duration of the event since remaining with their group and in contact with their steward is a key component of Guinness’ requirements for a successful attempt. This is likely to occur at approximately 7:30 p.m.

Anyone interested in serving as a steward, as part of the necessary oversight for the world record attempt is invited to contact Albright by email, or to reach out to the CLACS office in the University Center, at (231) 591-2685.

The Bulldog Bubblegum Blast is part of Bulldog Beginnings, a 16-day schedule of events designed to bring Ferris students together to begin the academic year.
