DCCL Alumna Naomi DeWinter Named President of Muscatine Community College

Naomi DeWinterMUSCATINE, Iowa – Naomi DeWinter, an alumna of Ferris State University’s Doctorate in Community College Leadership program and vice president of student affairs at North Central Michigan College in Petoskey, has been named president of Muscatine Community College in Muscatine, Iowa.

DeWinter’s appointment was announced recently and will become official after a vote of the Eastern Iowa Community Colleges Board of Trustees on Monday, June 15. She will replace Bob Allbee, who announced his retirement after 35 years of service.

DeWinter is expected to start as MCC president on Monday, Aug. 17.

“My family and I are delighted to join the Muscatine community which has already been extremely welcoming,” DeWinter said in a press release issued by EICC. “There is a strong sense of community commitment to MCC and vice versa and I look forward to maintaining the active partnerships Bob and others have established.

“Together with the faculty and staff at MCC, we will focus on improving student success, and continuing to offer a variety of programs that meet employer needs,” added DeWinter, who earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Eastern Michigan University. “I met several community members who spoke fondly of their MCC education. Students of all ages should consider MCC as their first-choice college; it will be an unforgettable experience.”

EICC is excited to welcome its newly-named future president.

“We are very pleased and excited to welcome Naomi to our college community,” said Don Doucette, chancellor of the EICC. “We undertook an extensive nationwide search to determine a successor for Bob, and Naomi was truly the best of the best. She is well respected by her colleagues and peers in Michigan and highly recommended by the president she has served with for the past 14 years.”

DeWinter was a member of the inaugural class of students in Ferris’ DCCL program that graduated as part of the Spring 2013 commencement ceremonies. To learn more about the program, visit DCCL.
