Ferris State University faculty, staff and students come from all over the world with one thing in common – Ferris as ultimately their No. 1 choice. In the Ferris First series, we chat with members of the University community to learn more from them about why Ferris was their No. 1 choice.
They all have a story. Here, we tell part of that story. Meet: Trevor Waller
He is: A senior from Dearborn, Mich. studying Welding Engineering Technology.
Why was Ferris your number one choice? Trevor chose Ferris because it has “one of the best welding engineering technology programs in the country.”
“I knew when I was in high school that I wanted to go into welding,” said Trevor. “And there was no other option than Ferris at that point.”
What do you like most about Ferris? Trevor’s favorite thing about Ferris is its small size. He also enjoys the northern feel of Ferris' campus.
“I love the fact that I can go almost anywhere and see people that I know,” he said.
What do you enjoy about your academic major? Being a Welding Engineering Technology major, he really enjoys the real-world experience that they receive in the program.
“I can say that I am graduating from Ferris overly prepared for any job that I will receive,” he said. “I have been provided with so many opportunities and experiences at Ferris to make me confident in anything I do.”
What student organizations are you involved in? Why? Trevor is a member of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity on Ferris’ campus, Finance Division of Student Government and he also holds the position of Housing Director for The BIG Event.
How is Ferris preparing you for your future? Trevor believes that Ferris has given him the skills to be both an engineer, as well as a welder.
“Outside of the classroom, the numerous registered student organizations and volunteer opportunities have allowed me to grow my communication skills,” he said. “It also has shown me that I really enjoy working with the community.”
Why should Ferris be a top choice for others? “It has such a personable atmosphere,” Trevor said. “You get to know your professors and they get to know you. You are never without help, and everyone at Ferris is passionate about what they do. It’s refreshing.”
