Policy
Ferris is committed to assuring that its faculty possess the proper academic qualifications to best serve students and to assure compliance with Higher Learning Commission (HLC) and other standards. Assuring qualifications is the responsibility of the faculty within the programs and departments with subsequent approvals at both the College and Academic Affairs leadership levels.
In accordance with HLC guidelines, minimum qualifications are established generally by an appropriate degree within the discipline, but may also be satisfied by “tested experience.”
Tested experience is a term used by HLC to qualify faculty through alternative credentials, such as level of experience in the field (e.g., workplace, consulting, etc.). In some cases the minimum qualifications require both a specific degree level and “tested experience.” Experience teaching in a program does not qualify as “tested experience.”
Minimum qualifications are established for each course in the Ferris catalog and serve as the basis for future hires.
