BIG RAPIDS, Mich. —

Ferris State University student Rogelio Ceja is traveling around Michigan this summer, representing the state’s farmers and talking about the impact of the state’s agriculture.

Ceja’s internship with the Michigan Ag Council is providing him with hands on experience with planning farm-to-table dinner events and organizing discussions among community leaders, social media influencers, and farmers to talk about food and farming in local communities.

Ceja is a native of Alma and Business Administration major. He transferred to Ferris State from Delta College and is an online student seeking a concentration in Human Resource Management for his Bachelor of Science degree.

His affiliation with the Michigan Ag Council began in 2020 when he became one of its first “Michigan GROWN, Michigan GREAT” ambassadors.

The Michigan Ag Council is an organization of commodity groups and agribusinesses working together to raise awareness of food and agriculture today. In Michigan, the organization highlights more than 300 great-tasting, high-quality fresh foods and products supporting the more than 46,000 state family farms.

This summer, Ceja is working with six students in the Michigan GROWN, Michigan GREAT program, representing farmers across the state at events.

His internship includes managing the organization’s social media, creating engaging content and connecting with followers.

In 2023, Ceja came on board as the organization’s outreach specialist and has been using skills he learned through classes at Ferris State.

“Find a position that excites you, one that you will be proud to hold,” Ceja said. “It is much easier to learn from your internship when you are passionate about your work.”

Human resource managers are in demand, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, with careers in the field projected to grow 5 percent from 2022 to 2032, faster than the average for all occupations.

About 15,500 openings for human resources managers are projected each year, on average. The media salary in 2023 was $136,000.
