University Offices, Departments, Orientation Visitors Gain from Resource Fair Interactions

Becca Osborne

Becca Osborne, director of Ferris State University’s LGBTQ+ Resource Center, staffs an information table during the third week of 2023 Orientation sessions Monday, July 10. More than 1,500 students are expected to participate in orientation ahead of the Fall semester’s start Monday, Aug. 28.

New-student orientation resumed at Ferris State University on Monday, July 10, with dozens of campus departments welcoming new students by offering small gifts and opportunities to future Bulldogs beginning their journey to a degree.

A visit to the Office of International Education and Study Abroad table proved fruitful for Redford native Nevaeh Wright, who will begin her coursework for Nursing studies this fall in the College of Health Professions.

“I was encouraged that there are ways to participate in Study Abroad and accomplish some learning that would be valuable in my program,” Wright said. “The countries I would be most interested in are Korea and Japan, as I think they would give me a good global perspective for the future. My first trip outside the United States would be anywhere I might go.”

Among others hosting tables in the Rankin Atrium of the David L. Eisler Center was LGBTQ+ Resource Center Coordinator Becca Osborne, who welcomed the opportunity to meet and get to know future students and their families.

“We have seen quite a few students and parents who were excited to find us here, offering active outreach to new students,” Osborne said. “They have been taking our business cards, resource lists and asking about the center’s schedule of events, where we are located, hoping to stay in touch. The nature of our engagements is positive, and I respect that our offerings may not interest everyone.”

Ferris will host orientation three days a week for the weeks of July 10 and July 17. Orientation organizers expect over 1,500 students to visit campus, learn about their college and select courses for the fall term. The first day of classes for the 2023-24 academic year is Monday, Aug. 28.
