Toys for Tots donation

Isaias Rivera, of Grand Rapids, shows an early donation offered to the Sigma Lambda Beta fraternity’s campaign to support the United States Marines’ Toys For Tots Drive on campus. Donations of new, unwrapped toys are welcome through Monday, Dec. 12, with the Upsilon Epsilon chapter also employing an app for financial contributions.

The Upsilon Epsilon chapter of Sigma Lambda Beta International Fraternity, Inc., Ferris State University’s historically Latino-based fraternity, welcomes donated toys and financial contributions as part of Toys for Tots through Monday, Dec. 12.

Grand Rapids native Isaias Rivera, a Sports Communication student also minoring in Multimedia Journalism, said the organization has used social media to seek support from fellow students.

“We began our promotion coinciding with the start of the drive, Wednesday, Nov. 16,” said Rivera, who is also pursuing associate degrees in Digital Media and Communications Studies. “We have held a toy drive in previous years and hope to surpass previous collections this year so that more children can have a happy Christmas with a new toy.”

Rivera said their recommended donations include sports balls, action figures, LEGO products, stuffed animals, Barbie dolls and fidgets. In addition, donors can leave items in Toys for Tots boxes around campus, including in front of the Hispanic/Latino Cultural Center in room 131 of the Interdisciplinary Resource Center.

“Representatives of Sigma Lambda Beta are in the CLS office from 10:55 a.m. to 1:50 p.m. to accept the toys or answer questions,” Rivera said.
