Exploration of Cyber Security or Design and Manufacturing, offered with the opportunity to become familiar with the main Ferris State University campus in Big Rapids, is one facet of the schedule of academic camps now available to middle and high school students in June and July.

Senior Coordinator of Camps and Conferences Gary Wendlowsky, with Ferris’ Conference and Professional Services office, said they are excited to support the efforts made by faculty and program coordinators to promote these areas of study.

“The instructors are able to give students a preview in their fields of expertise, and highlight Academic camp photocareer opportunities that are available through study in these programs,” Wendlowsky said. “Advances in the technology and facilities available in the College of Business and Swan Technical Arts Buildings, respectively, should be a great benefit to this learning.”

Students attending sessions on the Big Rapids campus are overnight guests in the university’s residence halls, while those attending the Digital Animation and Game Design camp offered at Ferris-Grand Rapids participate as commuters.

“The reputation of the university’s School of Digital Media is well known in that area,” Wendlowsky said. “These offerings have been popular with middle and high school students for a number of years.”

The Conference and Professional Services office also supports musical and cultural exploration based on the Big Rapids main campus, this summer.

“There are also a number of contracted activities on the Big Rapids main campus, such as high school bands preparing for their competition seasons, and a celebratory symposium on the Idlewild community, which will be held the weekend of July 13 and 14,” Wendlowsky said. “We are glad to welcome the symposium participants, whose numbers have outgrown their previous gathering site in Lake County.”
