Summer Internships: Travis Brady

Ferris State University students gain valuable work experience through internships. Internships also can confirm or redirect career decision-making, provide marketability, develop people skills and enhance classroom learning. Many academic programs require one, but the experience is encouraged regardless to provide students with a better understanding of what will be expected of them in the workplace.

Many students are participating in myriad internships this summer. Meet:

Ferris State UniversityTravis Brady

He is: a senior from Breckenridge, Mich., with an Accounting major, and a Business Administration minor. He also has an advanced certification in Leadership and Supervision.

His Internship: is with Mercantile Bank’s corporate office, in Commercial Loan operations. Travis worked on their 2016 Tax Project, which involved using county tax software and online databases. To determine if there is risk on collateral tied to mortgages, he searched for delinquent property taxes and unpaid tax liability.

Other Internships: Travis has completed a Management internship in Orlando, Fla., and another in Tax Accounting in Grand Rapids.

Other Groups at Ferris: He has been a community service representative for the American Marketing Association-Ferris chapter, and is a member of the Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants, as well as the Institute of Management Accountants.

Advice for Other Students Seeking Internships: “Whether you need professional development skills, resume or cover letter critiques, networking advice or personality assessment, all of this is available at the internship office. They offer honest, and knowledgeable assistance. You should also take part in career day fairs and internship awareness.”
