Fourth Annual Fallen Officer Memorial 5K Run Set for April 10 at Northend Riverside Park

Jessica Nagle-WilsonSupporters of Ferris State University’s Criminal Justice program, and the Lambda Alpha Epsilon professional fraternity, are prepared for the fourth annual Fallen Officer Memorial 5K Sunday, April 10, in Big Rapids’ Northend Riverside Park.

There are prizes for the top three finishers in the event’s run and walk categories, according to LAE philanthropy chair Rebecca Ensink.

“We’re doing well, as we already have well over a hundred participants, and many people sign up the day of the event,” Ensink said. “We are raising funds to benefit a CJ student who could use some help with their finances as they work toward their degree.”

The Jessica Nagle-Wilson Memorial Scholarship is awarded, annually, in memory of the 2000 Ferris alumna who fell in July 2002, while working as a police officer in Hazel Park, Mich.

Registration begins at 11:30 a.m. on race day in Northend Riverside Park, with a memorial service to honor Nagle-Wilson and other fallen law enforcement officers at 1 p.m. The race begins at approximately 1:15 p.m. The cost is $20, and participants will receive a T-shirt.

Ensink said that they welcome participants from the Ferris campus and Big Rapids Community, with Sunday, April 17 set as the rain date for the event.

“We’re hoping for good weather,” Ensink said.
