Information Security and Intelligence Major Gains Valuable Internship Opportunity with Steelcase

Ferris State University students gain valuable work experience through internships. Internships also can confirm or redirect career decision-making, provide marketability, develop people skills and enhance classroom learning. Many academic programs require one, but the experience is encouraged regardless to provide students with a better understanding of what will be expected of them in the workplace.

Many students are participating in myriad internships this summer. Meet: Gina DiGiovanni:

Gina DiGiovanniShe is: A junior in the Information Security and Intelligence student from Shelby Township, Mich.

Internship: DiGiovanni is an Information Security intern with Steelcase in Grand Rapids, Mich.

What she is learning: Primarily working on a project that gets a handle on the cloud apps and documenting them, researching them, gathering data and figuring out a way to evaluate which ones they are going to block. She is getting tons of on-the-job experiences and is learning more about the cloud security. Everything she has learned about Cloud Security has benefited her, whether it was learning how to evaluate cloud applications and how a corporation the size of Steelcase uses their cloud applications.

What she is involved in: DiGiovanni is a Resident Assistant for Clark Hall at Ferris State University, and also a member of the Residence Hall Association.

Her future plans: Long term, DiGiovanni sees herself working in Digital Forensics, and using Digital Forensics and cyber-crime and fraud investigations. At this point, she is open to experiencing any aspect of information security.
