Promesa Scholars Program

The Promesa Scholars Program is a Hispanic/Latino Focused leadership and retention program developed to assist students in navigating success throughout their education at Ferris State University.

The Promesa Scholars Program (PSP) was created to support the academic advancement and retention of incoming Promesa Summer Success students at Ferris. In 2017, the program was redeveloped and scaled to provide access to resources and opportunities, empowering more students to achieve college completion and career readiness.

Students join the PSP during their first year at Ferris. Promesa Scholars integrate the Ferris Community through peer mentorships. PSP provides academic preparation, leadership and cultural identity development, and limited scholarship opportunities.

The Pillars of our Promesa Scholars

Leadership

We commit to developing our leadership capabilities and empower ourselves to share our voice. We want to see Hispanic/Latino leadership throughout our campus.

Community

We value collectiveness. Through Peer mentorship, we create a sense of belonging and act as each others support system. we know that we are part of something bigger by underscoring our core message: I belong here, I am a resource, and I am a legacy.

Cultural Identity

We view cultural difference as a strength. We commit to developing our self-awareness, cultural intelligence and value diversity. Having a strong sense of self helps us adapt to new and changing environments.

Academic Success

Academics are central to the program. We commit to developing and practicing skills in self-advocacy, research development, and personal accountability. We also commit to celebrating each others wins.
