Membership in the Honors Program affords you access to a number of Honors-specific conferences, both nationally and regionally. If you are interested in attending any of these conferences, please contact the Honors Director as soon as possible.
The National Collegiate Honors Council (NCHC) holds their annual conference each November. The 2018 NCHC conference will take place from November 7-11, 2018 in Boston, MA. This conference provides students from Honors programs and colleges across the country to meet one another and share their research.
Students present at the conference as part of 'Student Interdisciplinary Research Panels,' in which each student has 15 minutes to present his or her research. To submit to the conference, a student must be in good standing in the Honors Program and be available to attend the National Conference.
To submit, a student must prepare a 50-word description of the project and a 150-200 word abstract by early Spring semester, and submit it to the Director for review. Watch for the 'Call for Presenters' in January or early February for details. For more information visit the 'Student Proposal Guidelines' on the NCHC website. Guidelines for the 2014 conference are available for review.
A student testimonial from the NCHC website:
At my first NCHC conference, I attended a meeting of the Precollege Education of the
Gifted Committee, and amazing things happened for the students there. We told our
stories, and for the first time I realized that I was not alone in Honors. Many of
us had been gifted “low achievers” in our early academic careers, with high test scores
but low grades. We lacked motivation. We didn’t care about succeeding. But then something
happened to change our attitudes. We started succeeding and joined our Honors Programs.
We were excited by the challenges and the expectations of our Honors communities.
That meeting changed my perspective on what Honors can do for students. It made me
want to help new members in my program find their way, so they could feel connected.

The Michigan Honors Association is not a NCHC regional division, but an independent organization for honors programs in the State of Michigan (who happen to be split between the 'Upper Midwest' and ‘Mideast’ regional conferences).
The Michigan Honors Association Conference is held annually at the McMullan Conference Center in Roscommon, MI. If you are interested in attending, please contact the Director during the first week of classes in Fall.
