Waka Flocka Flame, a rapper with more than a decade of hit releases, will take to Ferris State University’s Williams Auditorium stage Wednesday, March 29 at 7 p.m., in a free concert offered by Entertainment Unlimited.

Center for Student Involvement coordinator and EU advisor Ben Avery said their contracted agency that communicates with musical management companies offered Flame on a list of artists, which delighted the EU Campus Programming Board.

“We were pleasantly surprised since current students and those slightly beyond their college years are familiar with and enjoy his work,” Avery said. “There are 20 students on the advisory board who gathered input from peers and followed their hearts in signing Flame for his performance.”

Waka Flocka Flame was born Juaquin James Malphurs in New York City but came to national attention with his 2009 breakthrough hit “O Let’s Do It.” His first album in 2010, “Flockaveli,” debuted at number six on the Billboard Top 200 chart.

“Picking Flame is certainly working out well in terms of bringing in an artist that has a ‘buzz,’” Avery said. “We have promotional posters out on campus, and our peers in Housing and Residence Life said they are hearing students talking about this concert, expressing great interest in attending.”

An added opportunity is also in place for Ferris students.

“By simply texting ‘FSUEVENTS’ to 71444, students will be entered into a field, where winners can bring a friend to a meet-and-greet with Flame the night of the show,” Avery said.

The EU staff hopes to welcome a large audience to the free concert on March 29. Avery said those looking to attend should be aware of current interest levels and rules pertaining to their attendance.

“It will be first come, first serve for those who want to see the show,” Avery said. “Our guests should expect to wait in line to get in, as the Williams Auditorium doors will open at 6:30 p.m. There is a real possibility we would reach capacity, meaning we might turn away some hoping to see the concert. We also have a ‘no bags’ rule for our guests, so concertgoers should travel light, with no outside food or drink allowed.”

EU Student Recruitment and Retention Chair Jayden Anderson, a Marketing student from Niles, will be the opening act for this show.

Guests are advised there is a “no bags” rule for attendees at this first-come-first-served event. No outside food or drink is allowed.
