Phi Sigma Kappa Members Seek to Build on Success of Haunted House Fundraiser, Oct. 28-29

Haunted House

Portions of the Phi Sigma Kappa house, located at 408 S. Michigan in Big Rapids, will be transformed Friday, Oct. 28 and Saturday, Oct. 29, as the Sigma Epsilon chapter hosts its fourth annual Haunted House fundraiser for Area 5 Special Olympics, from 6 to 10 p.m. both evenings.

The Sigma Epsilon chapter of the Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity at Ferris State University will have a charitable weekend agenda set for Friday, Oct. 28 and Saturday, Oct. 29. The fraternity plans to host its fourth annual Haunted House to raise funds for Area 5 Special Olympics.

Griffin Nowell, a sophomore from St. Joseph in the Construction Management program, said the house at 408 S. Michigan will be open from 6 to 10 p.m.

“We have a large house. The entire basement and the common living space on our first floor work well for our displays and our brothers in their costumes,” Nowell said. “Other Greek organizations gain volunteer hours helping us decorate for the haunted house. We have a great time collaborating with them on this project.”

Nowell added that part of the enjoyment for their chapter is coming up with a variety of fresh and classic horror characters, so return guests can get laughs and thrills from the unexpected during their visit.

“In 2021, we raised approximately $1,600 for Special Olympics, which was our best result for the event,” Nowell said. “It has grown each year. We have a lot of fun doing this and hope it helps everyone get ready for Halloween while they help us support this worthwhile cause.”

There is a $6 general admission charge for the Phi Sigma Kappa Haunted House and $5 for Ferris students. The event is free for children 12 and under who are accompanied by a parent or guardian.
