Summer Internships: McKenna Burns

Ferris State University students gain valuable work experience through internships. Internships also can confirm or redirect career decision-making, provide marketability, develop people skills and enhance classroom learning. Many academic programs require one, but the experience is encouraged regardless to provide students with a better understanding of what will be expected of them in the workplace.

Many students are participating in myriad internships this summer. Meet:

McKenna BurnsMcKenna Burns

She is: McKenna is entering her final semester of the Public Relations program at Ferris with a concentration in Marketing. McKenna is from Sanford, Michigan.

Her Internship: McKenna is a news services and social media Intern for Ferris State University Marketing and Advancement.

How Ferris Helped McKenna Gain Her Internship: Ferris State was not only able to provide me with my current internship position, but they were able to provide me with the hard and soft skills necessary. My Public Relations and Marketing courses provided me with countless hours of writing experience and knowledge to help me succeed in this position.”

Making A Difference in Her Internship: “Some things that I do at my internship include writing blogs and stories, reaching out and communicating with current students about student life, on-camera work, and researching things like social media strategy and management. I want to use this opportunity to not only grow my knowledge but share my knowledge through my work at Ferris.”

Other Campus Involvement: “I am former president and current member of the Ferris Public Relations Student Society of America chapter and a member of the Ferris State Cheerleading team.”

McKenna’s Relatable Ferris Core Value: Ethical Community. “With the society we live in today, ethics within a certain area, school, or community become extremely important. It has always been important to me, especially from a public relations perspective, that I can look at the actions of my university and community and be proud of what they represent and accomplish.”
