Orientation sessions continued.
Just under 200 first-year and transfer students came to the David L. Eisler Center Monday, July 11, as Ferris State University continued its orientation schedule for the 2022-23 academic year.
Greeting the latest members of the Bulldog family at the Lot 1 entrance of the Eisler Center near North Hall were Maliah Johnson, of Battle Creek, a Dental Hygiene student, and Holland Snyder, of Montague, studying Environmental Biology. Johnson explained that the student orientation leaders take turns offering an enthusiastic welcome to the students and parents arriving for orientation sessions.
“When they arrive for their session, it is our job to let them know how glad we are they chose Ferris,” Johnson said. “The questions they might have will be answered once they are inside the center by our staff assisting their progress there.”
It’s exciting to greet the families as they arrive.
“I like seeing all the happy families, so offering them encouragement as they start their journey with the university is an easy thing to do,” Snyder said. “My sister is graduating from high school next year. I may try to talk her into coming to Ferris since we have a good program in her field of interest.”
Charlotte Tetsworth, the associate director of processes in Admissions and Financial Aid, greeted students at the first table in the Fine Art Gallery of the David L. Eisler Center. Tetsworth and her peers were speaking with students individually in the center while their parents waited nearby for the next part of the morning session.
“This is a good opportunity to engage our students,” Tetsworth said. “It can get a bit loud and a little crowded in the Fine Art Gallery. We show confidence in our students by having them come to us and verify the personal information that is an important component of their registration process.”
Monday’s swell of more than 180 students arriving for orientation is a portion of 1,000-plus students who have and will take part in these sessions on the main campus. The Monday-Tuesday-Thursday schedule continues this week and starts again on Monday, July 18. Late orientation sessions are scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 18, and again during Welcome Week on Aug. 25.
