Ferris State University students gain valuable work experience through internships. Internships also can confirm or redirect career decision-making, provide marketability, develop people skills and enhance classroom learning. Many academic programs require one, but the experience is encouraged regardless to provide students with a better understanding of what will be expected of them in the workplace.
Many students are participating in myriad internships this summer. Meet:
Jacob Jergens
He is: A Spring 2022 Dean’s List honoree in the Television and Digital Media Production program from Troy, Ohio.
His Internship: Jacob works with Ahptic Film and Digital in Chicago.” I am further developing my skills in video editing and videography. I am becoming more experienced with professional filmmaking equipment such as jibs, gimbals, and sliders. I am learning to communicate better with my team to shoot and edit engaging and effective content for local clients.”
Ferris’ Involvement in Jacob’s Internship Choice: “The TDMP program has connections with companies all across the country with potential internship opportunities. The program prepared us for securing these internships with a class dedicated to making successful connections. That helped my classmates, and I develop our portfolios and resumes to their full potential.”
Future Plans: “Through my internship, I was offered a full-time position as a videographer and editor. I hope to continue growing my skills as I now go through my career, and I am so grateful to be a part of an industry that I love.”
Advice For Other Students Seeking Internships: “Use resources such as Handshake, Indeed, Linked In, and other similar sites to find many different opportunities and connections. Conduct in-depth research into the companies to ensure they’re the right fit for you.”
More About Jacob: “When I’m not out shooting photos or video, I like to play music. I play instruments such as the guitar, piano, saxophone, and drums. Not only do I like to play, but I also like to compose and record music. I’ve managed to compose the music for a couple of video projects I’ve worked on at Ferris, as well as personal projects.”
Ferris Core Value Jacob Relates to: Collaboration. “I deeply enjoy working with a team who can all bring their ideas and
personalities to the table to create content you could never do individually.”
