Ferris State University students gain valuable work experience through internships. Internships also can confirm or redirect career decision-making, provide marketability, develop people skills and enhance classroom learning. Many academic programs require one, but the experience is encouraged regardless to provide students with a better understanding of what will be expected of them in the workplace.
Many students are participating in myriad internships this summer. Meet:
He is: A third-year Television and Digital Media Production student from Ada, Ohio.
His Internship: Tevin is producing videos for Ferris’ Advancement office, in University Advancement and Marketing. “I am working on projects for The Ferris Foundation, as we work to tell the stories of those who support the foundation’s mission.”
Was Ferris Involved in Securing your Internship? “I wanted to do this segment of my Television and Digital Media Production senior sequence on campus, where we are in a six-month, 1,000-hour experiential learning opportunity. So I applied to University Advancement and Marketing and was accepted.”
Advice for Students Seeking Internships: “Keep all your options open so you secure a good opportunity. I went through a considerable search before my situation arose, where I chose the UAM position.”
More About Tevin: “I have been a member of the Kappa Eta chapter of the theatrical honor society, Alpha Psi Omega, which included serving as secretary for the registered student organization. I am also a vocal artist, having sung in certain university productions and during my days in high school.”
Ferris Core Value Tevin Finds Significant: Collaboration. “Now that I am in the senior sequence elements of my TDMP degree, I realize how dependent I am on my team members and classmates to produce quality packages. You have to make these connections and be a significant team member for that to work.”
Future Plans: “I am open to any kind of position in the industry, believing I can be a strong contributor in producing quality images, as that is appealing to me.”
