Ferris State University’s Promesa Summer Success program will continue to seek applications
from high school juniors and seniors through Saturday, April 30.The opportunity to earn up to seven college credits in a free, eight-week program is now available to Promesa Summer Success participants. Ferris State University’s Hispanic/Latino Cultural Center will continue seeking applications from high school juniors and seniors through Saturday, April 30.
CLS Executive Director Kaylee Burke is the program director. Burke said organizers are excited to celebrate the program’s anniversary and achievements, with plans to bring each Promesa Summer Success cluster to the Big Rapids campus for a two-night stay during the summer.
“The acceptance process should be competitive in Grand Rapids, though we have secured space at the Kendall College of Art and Design to accommodate a second cohort of 30 students,” Burke said. “In Holland and Oceana County, we are looking for students to confirm their interest and submit applications by the April 30 deadline.”
The Ottawa County-based Promesa Summer Scholars program has the Holland Museum as its base. Those from Muskegon and Oceana counties who participate will center their activities at Shelby High School. Along with academic opportunities, students gain perspective on college preparation while being encouraged to explore cultural resources in their communities.
“We expect to send out letters of acceptance to our participants at each site in the first week of May,” Burke said. “There is also a Detroit-based Promesa Summer Success program, which is offered in collaboration with the university’s Office of Transfer and Secondary School Partnerships.”
