Tetsworth Honored with Patriot Award by Employer Support for the Guard and Reserve

Charlotte Tetsworth, the associate director of Processes in Ferris State University’s Office of Admissions and Financial Aid, recently received the Patriot Award from Employer Support for the Guard and Reserve. A U.S. Defense Department staff member visited campus to honor Tetsworth.

Tetsworth, nearing her 25th anniversary as a Ferris employee, had other presumptions about that gathering as fellow staff members saw their opportunity to build on the moment.

“I was told we needed a meeting, loosely described as dealing with outreach to veterans,” Tetsworth said. “Shortly before our session, the gathering was moved into our conference room, where I came to find Assistant Director of Veterans Services Jacob Schrot in full uniform and a larger than expected group was gathered. I totally missed that my family was there. The ESGR representative began his presentation, and I knew quickly that they had put one over on me, which was a bit embarrassing but is also a great honor.”

The Patriot Award is the ESGR’s recognition for those persons who provide support to employees with Army National Guard or Army Reserve status. Tetsworth said her mother’s family had a significant presence in the U. S. military, so this tribute is very special to her.

“It is so fulfilling because I also have close personal friends and favorite teachers, who at one time served our country,” Tetsworth said. “It is what I am called upon to do in my role with Admissions, but it is truly an honor to be recognized in this way.”
