Students Optimistic, Focused on Return to Campus Housing for Academic Year

PhotoJarius Aaron, a sophomore from Pontiac in the Television and Digital Media Production program, speaks with Emily Scarlett of 13OnYourSide, the ABC affiliate in Grand Rapids, outside the Ewigleben Sports Complex Wednesday, Aug. 25. Aaron will live in North Bond Hall on the Ferris campus.

Welcoming approximately 3,000 students to the Ferris State University Housing and Residence Life facilities began Wednesday, Aug. 25, with Move-In Days for Bond and Cramer halls and the East Campus Suites apartments opening for the 2021-22 academic year.

Hannah Faber, of Woodstock, Illinois, a junior in the Biotechnology program in the College of Arts, Sciences and Education, arrived at her East Campus Suites apartment mid-morning. Faber started the trip to campus with her grandparents before dawn.

“This will be my second year here. I felt very comfortable in this setting and am glad to be back,” Faber said. “My roommate from my freshman year, a suitemate from when we were freshmen, and one of my Biotechnology classmates make up our group, all of them will be arriving at our suite today.”

Faber said she is excited to continue pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Biotechnology.

“This should be a great year in terms of potential opportunities,” Faber said. “I am hoping to secure an internship, so I can learn more about the industry while I consider my options and direction for my professional life.”

Sophomore Jarius Aaron, a Pontiac native in the College of Business’ Television and Digital Media Production program, noticed more people and longer lines outside Wink Arena while he checked in and received his room keys for North Bond Hall.

“I lived in McNerney Hall as a freshman,” Aaron said. “I have made a personal commitment to prioritize academic success and learning through my classwork this year.”

Aaron’s anticipation has been growing as a younger brother joins him as a college student. He is also excited that his Ferris classwork is coming through face-to-face instruction for 2021-22.

“I feel that I learn best through in-person classes,” Aaron said. “I am really looking forward to my courses in the TDMP program and meeting more people on campus by participating in activities and study groups this year.”

Ferris Move-In Days continue through Sunday, Aug. 29, with Fall 2021 semester classes starting on Monday, Aug. 30.
