Summer Internships: Matthew Main

Ferris State University students gain valuable work experience through internships. Internships also can confirm or redirect career decision-making, provide marketability, develop people skills and enhance classroom learning. Many academic programs require one, but the experience is encouraged regardless to provide students with a better understanding of what will be expected of them in the workplace.

Many students are participating in myriad internships this summer. Meet:

Ferris State UniversityMatthew Main

He is: a senior from Hemlock, in Television and Digital Media Production. Matthew is part of the intern crew at WKTV Community Television in Wyoming, Michigan.

What he is Learning on his Internship: “I feel this opportunity is allowing me to improve my skills as a video editor, director, cameraman and media professional. Our production of video and other content makes me feel like I am creating enjoyable, happy material for our audience.”

How was Ferris Involved in the Internship Process? “We were offered leads on companies interested in providing internship opportunities, and supported in our efforts to contact them. We have a class in the TDMP curriculum that is focused on building a portfolio and résumé, on improving our prospects.”

Advice For Other Students Seeking Internships “Make your search an open and aggressive one. Keep an open mind if the situation does not appear to be ideal, at first glance.”

Future Plans: “I hope to join a video production company, to focus my career on serving as an editor.”
