Grad Fair Goes Virtual to Support, Celebrate Ferris' Class of 2020

Virtual Grad FairThe Ferris State University Alumni Association is now hosting a virtual Grad Fair.

Ferris State University students preparing to graduate at the conclusion of the Spring 2020 semester can participate in a virtual Grad Fair, now available on the university’s website.

Assistant Director of Alumni Relations Ben Withey said that the virtual Spring Grad Fair will be available to graduates through the end of the semester.

“The Alumni Relations office and all our partner campus organizations express our heartfelt disappointment that we cannot gather with those preparing to graduate, for those events and ceremonies that are common in commencement season, to celebrate our students’ accomplishments at Ferris,” Withey said. “Many of the informative aspects of the Grad Fair originally scheduled for Tuesday, March 24, can be accessed online, thanks to the collaborative efforts of those participating groups.”

Withey said that the Center for Leadership, Activities and Career Services has a variety of resources established to support those students seeking to begin their professional lives, many of which are accessible in the Handshake app through MyFSU.

“There are programs there allowing for a critique of a student’s resume, or virtual workshops offered by CLACS to advance career skills,” Withey said. “Handshake is a great resource for employers to search for student or alumni profiles, with virtual workshops and recruiting events also available to our graduates there.”

Withey said the Alumni Association is proud to continue its active role in the Grad Fair’s operation as an opportunity to welcome the latest additions to the more than 170,000 alumni former Ferris students, living worldwide.

“There are a variety of Ferris sweatshirts, gift cards and other keepsakes that we collected for the fair, thanks to the generosity of our colleges and departments,” Withey said. “Those who fill out a short survey have a better chance of being a winner, with our first drawings planned for Monday, April 20.”

This virtual Grad Fair will also provide university departments and businesses who are annual collaborators their chance to serve students by offering a conduit to their products and appropriate communications to those students.

“Some graduates are following through on their cap and gown purchases, while class rings, announcement cards and other keepsakes can also be ordered through our web page,” Withey said. “The Ferris Foundation is also offering graduates the chance to submit video messages of gratitude that would be used in social media and other university solicitations.”

Withey also wished to thank a variety of contributors from campus departments for their assistance in creating and establishing the virtual Spring Grad Fair webpage.
