A collaborative effort by Ferris State University’s Alumni Association and The Ferris Foundation has established an online resource to provide financial assistance to students. Many students now face significant hardships brought on by food and housing insecurity, loss of income, unforeseen travel expenses and emergent technology needs to facilitate their virtual learning participation.
A Student Hardship Fund received more than $38,000 in support from more than 80 donors on Wednesday, March 25, in the first full day of its existence, according to cumulative totals available on the donation site. Joy Pulsifer, the dean of Student Life, said that her office has been assisting student requests, that they have already received, with Ferris resources. She expressed gratitude for the generous giving spirit of faculty, staff, alumni, parents and friends who have already contributed to this fund.
“We care deeply about every Bulldog, with the developments brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic only adding to that resolve,” Pulsifer said. “Our No. 1 priority continues to be the health and well-being of our students. The establishment of this fund will allow us to help many more students, to ensure that they can continue to be successful academically.”
Pulsifer said Ferris’ Office of Financial Aid will accept requests from students for support.
“The subject line of an applicant’s email should include ‘Hardship Fund,’” Pulsifer said. “It is important for students to include a brief description of their situation and a particular need in the body of their email.
Those students approved for support from the fund will receive up to $300 to address their requirements.”
