Dr. Alton SmithA 1995 graduate of Ferris State University’s College of Health Professions is among the latest appointees to The Ferris Foundation’s Board of Directors Dr. Alton Smith, of Grosse Pointe Park, officially received that honor from the university’s Board of Trustees.
Smith graduated from Ferris with honors, earning his Bachelor of Science in Nuclear Medicine with a minor in Pre-Medicine. The native of Jamaica had attended high school in Detroit and received his medical degree from the Wayne State University College of Medicine in 2000. Robert Murray, the executive director of The Ferris Foundation and Associate Vice President of Advancement, said Smith is a welcome addition to the directors.
“He is a great representative of his college, and Alton brings an interesting and capable skill set to this role,” Murray said. “As a clinical professor at Oakland University’s School of Medicine, Alton offers valuable experience in higher education.”
Smith was a combat medic in the Gulf War, through the U.S. Army Medical Corps and is a board-certified radiologist at William Beaumont Hospital-Grosse Pointe.
He joins alumna Emily (Cramer) Hancock, of Indianapolis, and Arlen Gaddy, of Grand Rapids, as recent appointees to The Ferris Foundation Board of Directors. Murray said all are welcome additions to the board.
“We are very glad to welcome this group of accomplished professionals to The Ferris Foundation Board,” Murray said. “We see their addition as something of assembling a cohort, so they develop a kinship and enjoy greater knowledge and understanding of their role in advancing the university’s mission.”
