Rachel Siddall, a senior from Cadillac, received a scholarship from the American Proficiency
Institute to further her studies in Medical Laboratory Science. Siddall was one of
five recipients of this award.The American Proficiency Institute, one of the largest proficiency testing providers in the world, has included a Ferris State University senior among five scholarship winners.
Rachel Siddall, of Cadillac, began her Ferris studies in Welding Engineering Technology. But Clinical Laboratory Services Program Coordinator Daniel deRegnier said that Siddall has made a successful transition to laboratory medicine.
Every few years we get a student who is enthusiastic about our program and the profession,” deRegnier said. “Rachel is one of those. Her selection to intern at the Mayo Clinic, last year, is certainly a positive reflection on her abilities.”
Siddall is a senior in Medical Laboratory Science who is currently participating in an internship with the University of Michigan, which includes research project work. She hopes for subject approval so that she might then present her findings at the American Society of Clinical Laboratory Science-Michigan’s annual conference, which take places in Kalamazoo, April 15-17.
“The scholarship has helped me cover my lodging costs as I work to complete the clinical rotation required for my degree,” Siddall said. “That includes sections in Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology and a period with the University of Michigan Health System’s blood bank. Fellow CLS students are in rotations at hospitals across the state. It has presented us a great deal more exposure to clinical scenarios than we can receive through our campus lab work.”
