Music Takes Action, the annual concert event for Entertainment Unlimited at Ferris
State University, which will be held on Saturday evening, April 4 in Jim Wink Arena.
The opening act for Music Takes Action is Chicago-based rapper Joey Purp (right)Since Ferris State University students had spoken, through responses to an Entertainment Unlimited survey, Music Takes Action organizers worked with that input and announced their lineup and featured nonprofit organization for the Saturday, April 4 event in Jim Wink Arena.
Hoodie Allen, a rapper, singer and songwriter from New York State whose extended play releases and studio albums have charted on Billboard’s Top 200, Rap and Rhythm and Blues charts is the event’s headline act. EU representatives displayed a cake with Allen’s name at their announcement event Thursday, Feb. 6, with Allen’s 2013 single and video “Cake Boy” in mind.
“Hoodie is a real dynamic performer who can appeal to fans of both the hip-hop and pop genres,” Veronica Anderson, a Music Entertainment Business major from Suttons Bay said. “He is given to throwing cake out to his audiences, so we decided to incorporate that into our announcement.”
The doors open at 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 4, with Chicago-based rapper Joey Purp as the evening’s opening act.
“We had conducted a survey earlier in the year, to get student opinion on who they would like to see perform,” Anderson said. “While Chance The Rapper was a clear choice, we had to make our decisions based on what our budget allowed. Joey Purp is an associate of Chance and he contributed to Purp’s 2016 single, ‘Girls@.’ Joey’s style goes along well with what our survey respondents were seeking from Music Takes Action.”
Music Takes Action Coordinator Megan Yuchasz, from Ortonville, who will also earn her Music Entertainment Business degree this May said they followed recommendations from their survey in selection of the nonprofit group to benefit from the event.
“The Muskegon River Watershed Assembly is based on the Ferris campus, with a mission that goes along with what our students wanted to accomplish, providing support to an environmental charity,” Yuchasz said. “One dollar from each ticket sold will go to the MRWA, and we will also accept donations at the concert.”
Ticket sales for Music Takes Action begin Monday, Feb. 10, with Ferris students able to purchase a single ticket for $5 by presenting their student ID at the Center for Leadership, Activities and Career Services office in the University Center from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. After sales at CLACS conclude, Friday afternoon, Feb. 21, tickets will be available for $15 each through Tickets Plus, and from the Ewigleben Sports Complex Ticket Office. On April 4, tickets will be available at the arena for $20.
