Advice, App Offered to Participants Ahead of Spring Career and Internship Fair Feb. 20

Career and Internship FairThe Spring Career and Internship Fair will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, at Ferris State University's Ewigleben Sports Complex. The Center for Leadership, Activities and Career Services encourages students and alumni to prepare for the event and to dress in business professional attire.

Preparations continue for Center for Leadership, Activities and Career Services staff and Ferris State University students ahead of the Spring Career and Internship Fair on Thursday, Feb. 20, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Ewigleben Sports Complex.

CLACS Assistant Kathryn Thomas said that the office is pleased to welcome new employers from the Big Rapids area, and corporations, nonprofit agencies and school districts from across Michigan.

“We have made a concerted effort to align our partners and complement the academic majors Ferris offers,” Thomas said. “Students will find a wide range of employers and internship providers to meet with in Jim Wink Arena and the Ewigleben Sports Complex’s Multipurpose Room.”

Thomas said that students are welcome to participate in résumé and cover letter reviews in the CLACS office before the fair and can visit the First Lady’s Attic, in the University Center, for appropriate business professional attire, if needed.

“Practice interview materials are also available through Handshake, and we are pleased to have JCPenney’s support for a ‘Suit Up Event,’ so students can present themselves effectively,” Thomas said. “We will have extended hours at the Career Center from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 17, to assure our participants the information and access they need.”

Thomas added that a Career Fair Plus app is live so students and alumni attending can plan their course through the employers and displays in each room. It is available from the App Store and the Google Play Store.

“They can check on specific information like where the jobs are located, what the employer is seeking in terms of candidates, and other important details,” Thomas said. “We believe this app will be a great preparatory and management tool, which will help students maximize their experience that day.”
