Campus Collaboration to Host `Tower of Terror' Oct. 31, Students Offered Evening Activities

Tower of Terror eventThe campus quad at Ferris State University will be active Thursday, Oct. 31 with a Pumpkin Patch for students from 2 to 5 p.m. and the "Tower of Terror" at the Carillon Tower from 4 to 5 p.m.

Visitors of all ages are encouraged to stop by the Carillon Tower on Ferris State University’s Campus Quad Thursday, Oct. 31, as the “Tower of Terror” will offer sounds and sweets for a Halloween celebration.

The Music program will set the mood, as associate professor Matt Moresi will play the carillon from 4 to 5 p.m., while the Student Alumni Gold Club hands out treats to youngsters in costume and students passing by. MaryKay MacIver, with Ferris’ History Task Force, said the group is pleased to have support from the university’s Department of Public Safety for this event.

“There will be giveaways for those who visit the tower; we are hoping to bring them some smiles on Halloween,” MacIver said. “Our task force button is a collectible item, in theme with the season.”

The Housing and Residence Life office will also be on the Campus Quad from 2 to 5 p.m. with a Pumpkin Patch planned as holiday-themed entertainment, according to Lisa Ortiz, associate director of Housing and Residence Life.

“We will have pumpkins that students can pick and paint on-site,” Ortiz said. “It is our hope to bring the campus community some traditional seasonal joy and a chance to express themselves.”

Ortiz said Entertainment Unlimited will also partner with Housing staff the evening of Oct. 31 in the Ewigleben Sports Complex for a free night of fun.

“We hope students will arrive in their Halloween costumes between 8:30 and 11 p.m. since skating will be available for no charge,” Ortiz said. “Our only suggestion is to avoid capes or costumes that extend to floor level, so everyone stays safe on the ice.”

There will be laser tag available in the multipurpose room of the complex at the same time as the “Bring Your Key, Skate For Free” activity.

“There will raffle prizes available, along with food and other games to enjoy,” Ortiz said. “We were very pleased by a turnout of around 500 students for this event, last year and hope students take the opportunity to gather with friends, meet our Residence Hall Association staff and others from campus.”
