Diversity and Inclusion Summit Established for Students, Student Organizations Nov. 23

Diversity and Inclusion Summit The inaugural Diversity and Inclusion Summit for Ferris State University students and student organization leaders will be held Saturday, Nov. 23 from 3 to 5 p.m. in the University Center ballroom.

The first Diversity and Inclusion Summit for Ferris State University students and student organizations is set for Saturday, Nov. 23 aft 3 p.m. in the University Center ballroom.

Organizers intend for the summit to be an annual event to illustrate the importance of diversity and inclusion in student organization efforts. Breakout sessions will be led by a variety of campus authorities from the Academic Advising office, LGBTQ+ Center, Hispanic/Latino Cultural Center and Office of Multicultural Student Services.

Noelle Kraus, a Pre-Med student from Cassopolis, and a student leader in the Center for Leadership, Activities and Career Services office, said subject areas include gender and sexuality, cultural intelligence, cultural competency and privilege.

“We have four fantastic speakers in Kaylee Burke, Matt Chaney, Sarah Doherty and Brooke Moore,” Kraus said. “We cannot wait to see everyone there, and hope all participants understand that acceptance has no boundaries.”

CLACS encourages all registered student organizations to send at least one representative to the summit. Marina Harrison, a senior in Social Work from Marlette, is a CLACS student assistant who said all students are welcome to attend the event, whether they participate in an RSO or not.

“There will be prizes raffled off, free food and gift certificates available for those who take part in this summit,” Harrison said. “Pre-registration is not required. We are hoping to establish this important learning opportunity for our campus community to make our groups more welcoming and aware.”

Anyone with a disability who requires accommodations to attend the summit may contact the CLACS office at (231) 591-2685 or email prior to the event.
