Summer Internships: Keith McCann

Ferris State University students gain valuable work experience through internships. Internships also can confirm or redirect career decision-making, provide marketability, develop people skills and enhance classroom learning. Many academic programs require one, but the experience is encouraged regardless to provide students with a better understanding of what will be expected of them in the workplace.

Many students are participating in internships this summer. Meet:

Keith McCannKeith McCann

He is: a sophomore from Fair Haven who is studying Heavy Equipment Technology, an Associate of Applied Science program.

His internship: is with AIS Construction Equipment’s outlet in Lenox, Michigan in Macomb County.

What Keith is Learning on his Internship: “I am learning how to work on heavy equipment, including the refurbishing of hydraulic equipment on implements like excavators and more simple assignments, such as engine work on lawnmowers.”

Was Ferris Helpful in Securing this Internship? “I got the internship on my own. I worked there before I went to college.”

Advice For Other Students Considering Internships: “Make sure it is a reputable company.”
