PHOTO CAPTIONS: Athletic camps for individual students or school teams will be held on the Ferris State University campus again this summer. Organizers said the Bulldogs’ success in NCAA and Great Lakes Conference competition help to promote this opportunity to highlight competitors, build skills and improve team performance.

Dozens of one-day events and camp experiences are scheduled from early June through the final days of August, as Ferris State University’s athletic programs offer exposure camps and summertime instruction to improve the individual skills and team play of young athletes.

Athletic Camps Coordinator Madison Heilman said the Ewigleben Sports Complex, Katke Golf Course and the university’s Racquet and Fitness Center will each bustle with student-athletic camp photoathletes, who will seek the opportunity to further their prospects as college players, or to develop their skills for success in the coming season.

“Most of our sports offer participants the chance to learn from our Division I or II athletes and coaches,” Heilman said. “Volleyball team camps can bring athletes from more than 30 schools to campus at a time, providing them the chance to compete against other programs in our facilities.”

Many of the camps welcome commuter participation, and Heilman said accommodations in the Brophy-McNerney and Merrill-Travis residence hall complexes are available to campers.

“There will be some weeks where hundreds of young athletes get the opportunity to become familiar with our campus, dining facilities and other amenities, like the Student Recreation Center,” Heilman said. “We look to provide a fun experience, whether the athlete only participates in training or spends several days with us on campus.”

Ferris’ national championship finalists in football have already begun to provide elite exposure and combine testing of position-specific skills during one-day camps, which includes an afternoon session Monday, June 17 from 1 to 4 p.m., to be held on Ferris’ South Athletic Fields.

“Walk-up participants are welcome at these Elite Exposure Tour stops, and the success of Ferris’ football program usually sees 200 or more players participate, seeking their chance to impress the observers at these events,” Heilman said. “There is no deadline for registration with regard to individual athletic camps, provided space is available.”
