Eleven Ferris State University Information Security and Intelligence students have
acquired industry certification in Amazon Web Services’ Cloud Computing, following
the university’s first semester of instruction as a designated AWS Educate Academy.
ISI Assistant Professor Jerry Emerick said Cloud Security and Cloud Computing is a high-demand technological skill, and that their program is fortunate to be affiliated with AWS, the market leaders in this internet-based, low-cost services platform.
“AWS Cloud Computing is red hot, with Amazon leading the industry by a significant share,” Emerick said. “As part of our Educate Academy designation, we have incorporated these certification requirements into our curriculum. A majority of the students who pursued the designation in the Fall 2018 semester were certified.”
Emerick said Ferris’ ISI program and its students are well positioned as cloud computing investment is forecast by International Data Corporation to continue in a healthy, upward trend, with the article forecasting that spending will reach “60 percent of all IT infrastructure and 60 to 70 percent of all software, services and technology spending by 2020.” Emerick noted that this growth should create a demand for AWS certified solutions architects, developers, certified ethical hackers and project management professionals.
“At this time, there is great value and desire for professionals who are certified and capable in cloud computing, cybersecurity and project management,” Emerick said. “With certificate training in Project Management also available through our program, Ferris is in an enviable position to train and provide the expertise that will be sought to provide the talent base in many high-demand, high-reward career opportunities.”

Both reports point to project management professions and those with AWS certifications.
