Marlon Wayans, who has been selling out stand-up comedy shows nationwide, performs as Ferris State University’s featured comedian during Homecoming 2019. An actor, comedian, film director, producer and writer, Wayans takes the stage on Thursday, Sept. 26 at 8 p.m. in Williams Auditorium.

Wayans reached a career milestone courtesy of his highly-anticipated, first-ever stand-up comedy special, “Woke-ish,” which premiered on Netflix, in February 2018. Student Homecoming Comedian Chairperson Megan Yuchasz, a senior from Ortonville majoring in Music and Entertainment Business, noted that the goal was to sign a well-known entertainer who would appeal to students.

“For our 2019 Homecoming Comedian, we really wanted to make sure it was someone the students wanted,” she said. “We sent out an online survey as well as doing a couple of focus groups and in-person interviews. We showed students a couple of different options based on availability and cost. We reached out to multiple agents who helped us narrow down our playing field and eventually find the perfect fit for our campus.”

Wayans is well known for his role as ‘Marcus Copeland’ in Columbia Pictures’ 2004 hit comedy “White Chicks,” opposite Shawn Wayans, Jamie King and Terry Crews. The film was directed by Keenen Ivory Wayans and grossed $69 million in the U.S. Marlon also starred alongside Shawn Wayans and Regina Hall in Dimension Films’ horror comedy spoof films “Scary Movie” and “Scary Movie 2,” also directed by Keenen Ivory Wayans. In 2014, Marlon starred in the Open Road Films comedy “A Haunted House 2,” the sequel to “A Haunted House.” Marlon produced “A Haunted House,” as well as “A Haunted House 2.” He starred with Gabriel Iglesias, Essence Atkins and Jamie Pressly.

Wayans starred with brother Shawn Wayans on The WB’s “The Wayans Bros.,” which was the network’s highest-rated comedy and continues to air in syndication. He has appeared on several popular television programs, including Fox’s “In Living Color,” Adult Swim’s “Childrens Hospital,” and BET’s “Second Generation Wayans.”

On Tuesday, Sept. 3, student rush (Ferris students only) begins at $5 per ticket, limit one per student. The student rush continues through Friday, Sept. 13. On Monday, Sept. 16, tickets will be available to the public and students can purchase additional tickets. All tickets will be $15, from that point forward. Tickets can be paid for with cash or credit/debit card, with a small processing fee for cards. Tickets will be sold in the Center for Leadership, Activities and Career Services, Room 120 of the University Center, Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be additional “pop-up” sales after 5 p.m. at The Rock Café and Quad Café. Specific dates for those opportunities will be announced, later.

“It’s been a crazy couple of months trying to pull it all together, but I’m so excited to be able to finally share this with the students,” Yuchasz said.

Entertainment Unlimited, the campus programming board, will host a stand-up competition on Thursday, Sept. 12 to select an opener for the Wayans’ performance.
