Ferris State University students gain valuable work experience through internships. Internships also can confirm or redirect career decision-making, provide marketability, develop people skills and enhance classroom learning. Many academic programs require one, but the experience is encouraged regardless to provide students with a better understanding of what will be expected of them in the workplace.
Many students are participating in internships this summer. Meet:
Logan Neal
He Is: completing the requirements for his Bachelor of Science degree in Television and Digital Media Production with this six-month internship. Logan is from Hersey.
His Internship/Making A Difference: “I have been producing video and editing content for the News Services and Social Media department of University Advancement and Marketing. I was active at orientation sessions and summer sports camps and gathered background footage for use in future content. I believe I have able to provide valuable video content for university productions and allow other videographers to do feature work and other projects.”
Was Ferris Helpful In Securing Your Internship? “Hannah Crouch, a digital media specialist with University Advancement and Marketing came to speak to a TDMP class. Since I grew up in this area, the internship was appealing, as it allowed me to continue in my job and get the experience.”
Advice for Other Students Seeking Internships: “I think it was important to strike a balance between the experience that the internship offers and other attributes like the location. Whether an internship offers pay is an important consideration for some students.”
Ferris Core Values Logan Relates to: Learning and Diversity. “I have found Ferris to be an excellent place to learn. Beyond
my curriculum, I have able to pursue studies in History, Mythology and Culture. In
terms of diversity, I have been exposed to people from other countries and continents.
I was able to produce a documentary on religions, so I met with Christians, Muslims,
Norse Neo-Pagans and Wiccans. It was much more than I expected.”
