Moving in Expected to be Smoother, More Fun at Ferris in 2019

Ferris State UniversityFerris State University students will see a revamped move-in process as they check in. Students living on campus will have a centralized check-in location before fanning out to their assigned halls and apartments.

It’s already an exciting time of the year for Ferris State University students coming to campus to kick off the 2019-20 academic year. For students living in on-campus housing, this year’s move-in days (Thursday, Aug. 22 and Friday, Aug. 23) should be smoother, more fun.

This fall, Housing and Residence Life has reorganized moving in from the traditional first big day, the Friday before Monday classes, to a two-day schedule with a new centralized check-in location. Students and their families will be greeted at Wink Arena, where everyone reports, to pick up important items such as their residence hall key, parking pass and student ID. Representatives from Dining Services and other campus offices will be on hand to answer student and parent questions. Additionally, the Pro Shop will be open for people who want to purchase Ferris-branded apparel and other items.

“We wanted to create a festive and welcoming environment for our students and their parents with tons of Ferris Pride,” said Lisa Ortiz, director of residential programs and services and associate director of Housing and Residence Life. “We believe this new approach to moving in will make the process smoother for our students to move into their campus halls and suites. We’ll also have information tables to address concerns and questions related to this process. Beginning the move-in process at Wink Arena allows us to get them what they need to reduce the stress of moving in while making it fun at the same time.”

After checking in, students and families will be provided directions to their assigned halls or apartments to streamline the moving-in process. Bulldogs-in-Action students will be around to assist in moving in. Additionally, faculty and staff will be present to offer helping hands.
