Summer Internships: Keri Frahm

Ferris State University students gain valuable work experience through internships. Internships also can confirm or redirect career decision-making, provide marketability, develop people skills and enhance classroom learning. Many academic programs require one, but the experience is encouraged regardless to provide students with a better understanding of what will be expected of them in the workplace.

Many students are participating in internships this summer. Meet:

Keri FrahmKeri Frahm

She is: a senior from Frankenmuth studying Hospitality Management with a minor in Event Management.

Her Internship: is at the Grand Lake Lodge in Grand Lake, Colorado. “I am currently helping execute the many events that are hosted at the Grand Lake Lodge. I work as one of the group and events coordinators on property to help make our weddings, reunions, and other events successful.”

Future Plans: “My future plans will definitely involve working with events. I think I may try to steer more toward working in sales, but I enjoy working with groups immensely. This internship has helped prepare me for work in the events sector, and I plan to use what I have learned to help further my career in event sales and planning.”

Advice to Fellow Ferris Students Considering Internships: “When it comes to internship location, don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone. Consider the internship that may take you further away than you are familiar with. Having to spend the summer away from my family was a fantastic learning experience that I will never forget.”

Keri’s Previous Internship Experience: “I worked one summer as a front desk associate at the SpringHill Suites of Frankenmuth and last summer I worked as a Camp Host at Eagle Village Camp and Retreat Center in Hersey, Michigan.”

Other Campus Activities: “I am involved in the American Marketing Association, Hospitality Management Student Association and the Student Alumni Gold Club.”

Ferris Core Value Keri Relates to: Learning. “I have a constant hunger to learn more. This is actually one of my Top 5 Strengths from the Clifton’s Strengths Finder Assessment. I take pride in learning new things every day and making use of those things to help me further my career.”
