Ferris State University students gain valuable work experience through internships. Internships also can confirm or redirect career decision-making, provide marketability, develop people skills and enhance classroom learning. Many academic programs require one, but the experience is encouraged regardless to provide students with a better understanding of what will be expected of them in the workplace.
Many students are participating in internships this summer. Meet:
James Bazen
He is: a sophomore from Rockford in the College of Engineering Technology’s Heavy Equipment Technology program.
His Internship/Making A Difference:is with the Padnos corporation, a leading regional recycler of scrap metal. James is with their Grand Rapids operation. “I am learning how to service and repair heavy equipment such as cranes, loaders, and trucks. I am making a difference by completing my work quickly and efficiently to help the maintenance division operate smoothly.”
Future Plans: “After gaining a few years of experience in this field, I hope to become a supervisor or manager of a maintenance division, either with Padnos or elsewhere.”
Advice For Other Students Seeking Internships: “Don’t procrastinate on your search for an internship, and don’t underestimate the importance of getting the actual work experience versus just taking the classes at school.”

HET classes, gave me the head start I needed to jump right into things with the specific
