Members of Ferris State University's Kappa Psi professional pharmacy fraternity will
offer a prescription drug take-back event on Saturday, April 27 from 10 a.m. to 2
p.m., in the University Center Building, near Starbucks. Pictured, (from left) are

St. Clair Shores, during a take-back event held in October 2018.Members of Ferris State University’s Gamma Chi chapter of the Kappa Psi professional pharmacy fraternity will continue their collaboration with the university’s Department of Public Safety on Saturday, April 27, by collecting unwanted and expired prescription medicines in the University Center building.
Second-year College of Pharmacy student Amber McKeever, of Birch Run, is the chapter
spokesperson. She said Kappa Psi members were also involved in a campus-based take-back
event October 27, 2018.
“Our collection on April 27 will begin at 10 a.m., near the Starbucks and continue
until 2 p.m.,” McKeever said. “We are glad that the DPS accepts each opportunity to
collaborate with us for these events.”
The Ferris Department of Public Safety has a prescription drug drop box that is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week for the disposal of medications. That black box is in the lobby of the DPS headquarters, immediately to the right of the entrance. The Big Rapids Department of Public Safety also has a drop box, located at 435 North Michigan Avenue.
“We are hoping to promote awareness of the safe handling and disposal methods of these medications through this take-back,” McKeever said. “It is important for professionals in the pharmaceutical and law enforcement fields to promote proper disposal of unwanted medications so that they don’t get into the wrong hands.”
State and national-level initiatives coincide on the last Saturday of April, each year, with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration citing a program goal of working to prevent drug addiction and overdose deaths.
