Ferris State University students enrolled in the College of Engineering Technology’s Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration program will benefit from a newly-established scholarship endowment which was created through the generosity of Dee Cramer, Inc.

The Richard J. Cramer, Sr. Scholarship Endowment will be awarded to a full-time student majoring in the HVACR program who holds a minimum 2.75 GPA. This award provides recipients with funds to use for tuition, books, fees or other academic-related expenses.

“We believe, as does our father, for whom the scholarship is named, in helping students succeed and supporting our industry,” said Matt Cramer, president of Dee Cramer, Inc. “Technical career opportunities continue to grow and we appreciate Ferris State’s endeavors in supporting education in these fields. We, at Dee Cramer, are fortunate to be able to provide support for students and help them achieve their career goals.”

Dee Cramer, Inc. of Holly, Michigan, is a third-generation, family-owned company founded in 1937 by Dee Cramer.  Dee’s son, Richard, or “Dick,” took the lead role of the corporation, in 1975, then was followed by his sons, Matt and Rich, in 2003. Dee Cramer provides heating, cooling and ventilation to commercial, industrial and institutional markets. The company is one of Michigan’s most trusted names in the industry and well known for its comprehensive service in design, build, delivery, installation and maintenance of quality HVACR systems, according to its website.

Cramer holds Ferris’ College of Engineering Technology in high regard.

“The HVACR program is one of Dee Cramer’s primary sources of degreed technicians,” Matt Cramer said. “We value our partnership with Ferris. Dee Cramer has hired many interns and graduates from the program over the years. We are honored that my father, Dick, is also a Distinguished Constructor in the Michigan Construction Hall of Fame at Ferris, who was inducted in 2012.”

The establishment of this scholarship endowment has great significance for the Cramer brothers.

“This was a great way for my brother, Rich, and I to say ‘thank you’ to our dad,” Matt Cramer said. “We are incredibly grateful to him, for all he has shared with us, so we could learn and grow in this industry. This scholarship will provide funding for students interested in our industry, which our dad has worked tirelessly in for over 50 years. Oftentimes, those interested in pursuing a technical career do not have the necessary funding to get formal training. We hope this scholarship will help offset some of these costs and provide more opportunities to students.”
